Half of Spanish Internet Users Read Newspaper Online

Based on data from comScore World Metrix audience measurement, it was found that out of 18.3 million Spanish internet users, 8.4 million visited online newspaper sites. This would mean 46 percent of the total Spanish online audience.

Mike Read, Senior Vice President and Managing Director mentioned in the report that, “With nearly half of the total Spanish Internet audience visiting a newspaper site in February, the online channel is undoubtedly an attractive marketplace for news publishers.” He also added, “As a greater percentage of overall news consumption goes digital, it will become increasingly crucial for traditional newspaper brands to be able to understand and quantify their online audiences and ensure that they are generating value for consumers and advertisers alike.”

Other interesting facts from the report was that 60 percent of online newspaper readers were males and 69 percent visitors were under the age of 45. Also, 20 percent of the overall visitors spent an average of 3 hours reading news from online newspapers.

Out of 34.5 million mobile phone users in Spain, 2.9 million accessed news and information through their phone browsers in January alone. More details about this report are listed below:
