What is a Bounce Rate?
Bounce rate is used rather often while analyzing a web page. A bounce is reported when a visitor leaves the website after landing on one page. The visitor either closes the website or is sent to another website through a link on the page.
The analytics software finds out the time a person stays on the website. The default session timeout is 30 minutes. If the visitor from an IP address stays on a single page for more than 30 minutes or closes a website after visiting a single page a bounce rate is recorded.
Bounce rates are useful to understand and analyze the performance of the entry page. A page with low bounce rate states that the page is catering to the needs of the visitor and the site is also producing targeted customers.
If a website and the entry page in it are hugely popular pages, even keywords which are not targeted have the possibility to come up in the top ten. These untargeted keywords can also result in a high bounce rate.
